Have had excellent success with Shih Tzus (like the Lhasa Apso, but smaller) and Maltese. The Maltese looks a lot like a Samoyed in miniature, with the added benefit that it does not shed, is non-allergenic, and is not particularly barky. It also housebroke and trained more quickly than our Shih Tzus. All are non-allergenic, no-shedding, and very affectionate and comical dogs in the 5-10 pound range. Easy to tuck under your arm in case of an emergency, and they don't take up a lot of room.

Border Terriers are the best! Of course, every dog and dog owner are different, but our Border Terrier is perfect for a 900 square foot condo. Enough energy to take a hike and romp in the mud, but happy to be a lapdog and spend the day in the crate. Plus: adorable!

Used to have a couple of Labradors and a Belgian Malinois but arrival of baby meant less time to take care of them so had to put some for adoption while a pair had to be left with my parents.

Yep, a Boston Terrier would be terrific but too costly to acquire in this part of the world. Just got a toy poodle 3 days ago and actually think he's turning out to be the best one we've ever had. Great sub for a baby brother or sis for my kid! Fun to groom, too.
